Mission Statement

The Bayswater Institute...

  • ...uses research, evaluation studies and action research

To further:

  • organisational strategies and methods which reflect and integrate the whole complex of values (human, technical and economic) that are espoused by the organisations and their members;
  • consideration of the needs and development of people in the design and implementation of technical, managerial and administrative systems.
  • ...uses education, training and developmental programmes

To further:

  • the dissemination of methods and experience in working with and integrating human aspects of organisation;
  • the use and application of the understanding that has been gained in these areas from research and experience in the social sciences.

History and Governance

The Bayswater Institute was founded in 1991 by Dr Lisl Klein, formerly of the Tavistock Institute with the help and advice of Harold Bridger. It was created as an independent research organisation and a registered charity. Its first President was Professor Marie Jahoda.

It is governed by a Board of Trustees, who are:

  • Mr John Marks, former Chairman of the Trebor Group Ltd
  • Professor James Powell, Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Enterprise and Regional Affairs, Salford University
  • Professor Celia Davies, formerly Professor of Health Care, Open University
  • Mr. John Middleton, formerly of the Department of Health
  • Professor Yiannis Gabriel, Professor of Organisational Theory, Royal Holloway, University of London
  • The Company Secretary is Mr. Martin Wright.

The senior staff of the Institute are:

  • Dr Simon Bell (Director);
  • Dr Lisl Klein (Founder);
  • Professor Ken Eason;
  • Mr. Derek Raffaelli is a Fellow of the Institute.
  • Other staff and contractors:
  • Ms. Miranda Alcock.
  • The Administrator is Chris Chism.
  • The Institute also has a number of Associates.

Location and Contacts

The Institute is located in Bayswater, in the west of London just north of Hyde Park/Kensington Gardens. It is close to the Bayswater and Queensway Underground stations.
